October is National Home Security Month and, with the nights drawing in, it’s a great time to check the security of your home and make sure you’re all set for winter.

The National Home Security Month website has some fantastic, free advice on securing your home, and you can download a jargon buster, a home security checklist and more, all designed to give you the help you need to make sure your home is as safe and secure as it can be.

This is the second week of the month-long event, and it’s titled, ‘Setting the Standard’. The focus this week will be about window and door locks, security standards, and protecting your valuables, so we thought it would be the perfect time to take you through how our doors can help to make sure your home is safe from burglars.

One of the main ways that burglars gain entry to a home is by kicking and attacking the front or back door, and with flimsier doors, it is possible to break the panels and get inside. Composite doors, on the other hand, are made of sterner stuff, with a steel-reinforced UPVC frame and a solid core that’s not so easy to break.

Burglars also like to take advantage of weak locks, where they can bump or break the cylinder, but every one of our composite doors comes with a Yale KM Superior Euro Profile Cylinder Lock as standard, and those don’t give way so easily.

Not only that, but you can buy our Secured Upgrade which gives you plastic-reinforced glass, a security chain, spy hole, and upgraded door locks for the ultimate in peace of mind.

If you combine highly secure composite front and back doors with excellent quality window locks, an alarm, outside lights and security cameras, you’ll be about as safe as it’s possible to be.

Want to learn more about National Home Security Month? You can follow them on Facebook and Twitter, where you can get more advice and enter some great competitions, including the chance to win a family pass to Warwick Castle. You can also look out for the hashtag: #NHSM18.

And of course, if you need to replace your doors to increase security, you can take a look at our door designer where you can try out all sorts of designs and see just what your door will look like and how much it will cost. Try it out here.
