What is a Fire Door?

A fire door is a door that has been tested against fire for a certain amount of time, i.e. FD30 is a fire door that has been tested against fire for 30 minutes.

The purpose of a fire door is to delay fire and smoke by containment, allowing people more time to escape.

A fire door tested for at least 30 minutes is a legal requirement in contained residences, such as flats and apartments and may also be required for doors between garages & homes. Sometimes they are required for communal entrances such as dormitories.

Composite Fire Doors

Composite fire doors have the same appearance as standard composite doors, except where glass is used. Fire doors need to have safety fire glass to comply to the necessary requirements.
